Based on M-ECORS, tidal flooding experiments of mangrove and salt marsh plants were carried out relying on the sea level rise in-suit simulation experimental platform in Zhangjiang Estuary. Different flooding gradients were covered in this experiment to study the effects of sea level rise and salinity variation on vegetation distribution in the coastal intertidal zone, and to quantify the growth law of mangrove and salt marsh plants in response to the changes of tidal level and salinity in the intertidal zone. By seting these experimental platforms in the upper reaches with low salinity content, middle reaches and lower reaches with high salinity content along the Zhangjiang River basin, to study the responses of mangrove and salt marshes plants to both salinity and tidal level.
