Ocean Observation Platform Based on Mariculture Rafts

Sep 14, 2022

The ocean observation platform was established based on the mariculture rafts in the northeast sea area of Ma'an Island, Dongshan Bay. Not only can it conduct observations on aquaculture water, but it also provides an ideal place for the development and testing of marine instruments. At present, the observation platform consists of a power supply system, a CTD chain, a solar multi-parameter water quality monitoring instrument, and an underwater plankton imager, which currently provides real-time data on the temperature, salinity and chlorophyll parameters in the bay’s aquaculture water. It serves as the foundation for establishing a long-term monitoring and evaluation system for aquaculture water quality in Dongshan Bay. Furthermore, the construction of this platform will contribute toward strengthening D-SMART’s ability in monitoring the population dynamics and diversity of marine plankton, enriching in-situ ecological observational data, and providing technical and data support for the field observatory to achieve its research objectives.
